Making the most of Vermont's fall foliage
Fall in Vermont is spectacular, but the color doesn't follow a calendar. It changes with elevation, location and the weather. That's why I plan each tour around the conditions, your interests and what's worth seeing that day.
Where we'll explore
My tours focus on Southern and Central Vermont, including the areas around Woodstock, Quechee, Windsor, Ludlow, Springfield and Killington.
Depending on the foliage and your interests, we might explore back roads, covered bridges, farms, mountain overlooks and Vermont villages, with time for photographs, local shops, lunch and stops along the way.
There's no mandatory checklist. We'll spend our time where it makes sense and leave room for a detour when something catches our eye.
Planning around the foliage
Vermont's foliage season typically runs from late September into October. Higher elevations often change first, while lower valleys can hold their color longer. Every year is different.
I keep an eye on foliage conditions, weather and road access throughout the season. As your tour approaches, I use that information to plan a route that makes the most of what's available. Sometimes that means higher elevations. Other times, a quiet valley is exactly where we want to be.

A little honesty about fall foliage
Mother Nature gets the final say. I can't guarantee peak foliage on a particular date, but there are plenty of things I can do to make your day a good one.
